Ok so say I am on my PC and I hear some random guy chatting about investing money into property and how he's rich and I can be too and I think "shut up" - I have a lot of Firefox Windows open and some popups. I can mute the comp but say I wanna listen to something, is there a way I can see what is making what sound for Windows, say a freeware program something? like it'll show all sound being played and you can close it's Window or mute it?

In windows 7 (not sure about other OS) type sndvol into a run prompt and it should show you a window with all applications that have initialised a sound device and their current volume level and sound activity. If you click on the blue icon at the bottom of the bit for each application you can individuall mute or unmute them.

Once you've got the window for sndvol open right click on the icon for it in the taskbar and pin to taskbar for easy access.

You might find it useful to install an adblocker in your browser to so as to prevent those kind of ads playing in the first place.

Ahh thanks, I had to configure it a bit but it has Firefox, Steam, Adobe Flash and it's flash making the noise.

But is there a FF addon that can see where the sound is coming from out of each FF Window?
