hi ppl

i just upgraded my cpu from an athlon3000+ to an athlon4000+ ,the bios recognises it with no probs and everything is reconnected as it should be and the temp is settled at approx 36c.then its starts to boot up and get the windows logo and the moving lil blue bar then just as its about to get into windows it just goes to a black screen and stays like that ive tried rebooting in safe mode and it wont even go into safe mode. am i going to need to do a hdd wipe and full xp re-install.

i have an epox 9npa+ mobo and a 36gb raptor hdd and xp home and a 1 gig of ram.

any help much appreciated thx guys

i went from an a64 3000+ to a 4000+ to a x2 3800+ and never had any problems with windows at all. A friend had the 4000+ chip off me to replace his 3000+ and he also had no problems. Does your motherboard support the 4000? Will it need a bios update

i had this when i changed my amd 3500+ to a 64 X2 3800+ dual core, had to reinstall windows as well but i thought i might as well go on to vista as i had to do that so that's what i am now running.

Mobo was a Asus
