Windows wont boot... mostly not even to bios screen

do you have any other ram sticks you can try instead?

your cpu temperatures are ok yes? (around 45 C ish, check in the bios monitoring screen)

keep posting here, you're giving us plenty of info and everyone will be glad to help :)

Do you get any beep errors or notification on screen of any kind?

No, none.

Ok take out your ram and boot up your pc, then do the same without the gfx card. Obviously it won't work, but if you have the motherboard speaker connected and get NO warning beeps then it is your motherboard that has died.

Had the same thing about a month ago ,but replaced gfx, memory, then realised I was getting no warning beeps when I removed components so it had to be the mobo.

EDIT: Ok I have seen it is sort of booting up. If it's failing there then it could be your am, so try to pickup a bargain spare stick from the Purple shirted store for about a fiver and test that stick of memory. Could be your HDD or the windows install on it, or it could even be your cpu, but this is doubtful.

Get a cheap stick of new memory (my pc2-5300 512mb stick cost me £2.97), then we can take it from there.

Ta guys,

Ive removed the ram, sound card, grafix, hdd, floppy, optical drive, all one at a time and still no joy (sorry did that last night). The mb temp/ cpu temp has never got above 31 C, and usually never over 35 when on for considerable amount of time!

If i can get in bios, the ram test is ok at 1024.

Maybe a new MB needed.

the initial 'ram test' is more of a ram count than a test

if you've got a spare stick you can try, i'd give that a go, failing that, new motherboard

no spare ram :(
Another asus, or any similar without me having to change the cpu ram etc,
Or go for a whole new setup?

If i was to change the MB, assuming it was that broke, would it boot fine with the new mb, as has the drivers, windows licence on the hdd etc?

Just a thought I had a similar prob with a mates PC the other week and it turned out the PSU was gubbed. Have you tried using a diff PSU ?

If it's XP and you are using an identical replacement mobo then you should have no probs. If it's a diff type of mobo you will need to run arepair installation from your original XP discs.

Oh.. ta for all you help though, feel like pestering you all, sorry.

As bledd has already said, we are more than happy to help - you've given us loads of information.

Just go to the purple shirt store and get the cheapest RAM for your motherboard you can and try that on its own.

Still having lots of trouble, a friend says it sounds more like a hardware issue and may be the graffics card, the mb dont have a out for video, so going to try to get a graffics card to test
