Windows Won't Start

I keep getting to the Windows start up logo then the PC crashes and tries to restart unsuccessfully. I can't start in safe mode and I can't start using a rescue disc. I tried starting from the original XP installation disc thinking I might do a repair but after a while the following screen appeared:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Does anybody know what I can do? I was going to reinstall the OS but I can't even do that!

From your sig I see you're overclocking - I'd go back to stock and try again. Windows can be fussy like that.

Have you tried removing all usb devices too?

Turned overclocking off and pc started. Bit strange as has been running slightly clocked for some months so can't see why it would be a software problem?? Could it be the CPU on the way out?

I doubt its CPU, but the windows installer can be fussy, are you certain that your overclock was totally stable? Did you run prime and orthos etc?

No. I think I'll leave it at stock for a few days to see if problem reoccurs!!!

Or should I still run Prime 95 to check the CPU at stock?
