I keep getting to the Windows start up logo then the PC crashes and tries to restart unsuccessfully. I can't start in safe mode and I can't start using a rescue disc. I tried starting from the original XP installation disc thinking I might do a repair but after a while the following screen appeared:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Bugcode_USB_Driver

If this is the first time you have seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer.

If this is a new installation ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you may need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.

Disable BIOS memory options such as cashing or shadowing.

If you need to use Safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 and select advanced start up option and then select Safe mode.

***STOP: 0x000000FE (0x0000003, 0x80862400, 0x86709100, 0x000000)"

Does anybody know what I can do? I was going to reinstall the OS but I can't even do that!

From your sig I see you're overclocking - I'd go back to stock and try again. Windows can be fussy like that.

Have you tried removing all usb devices too?

Turned overclocking off and pc started. Bit strange as has been running slightly clocked for some months so can't see why it would be a software problem?? Could it be the CPU on the way out?

I doubt its CPU, but the windows installer can be fussy, are you certain that your overclock was totally stable? Did you run prime and orthos etc?

No. I think I'll leave it at stock for a few days to see if problem reoccurs!!!

Or should I still run Prime 95 to check the CPU at stock?

Failing above, it could be memory, that looks like a memory error to me

It could be due to the blue screen, but then it could be down to harddisk issues or even board issues, you never know to be honest.

Id reccommend pulling parts in and out...

i.e. if you have anything in your pci slot, take it out and then boot, failing that, try disabling a few things in bios that you DONT need..

Can you not alter overclocking through bios? maybe you should try that.

failing that, check inside your pc and see if any parts have stopped working, check all fans are running, check bios for overheating issues...

surely anything i say though will have already been tried.

Try googling the code you have been given.. i used to do it, thats how my knowledge grew on the whole blue screen issues..
