windows write error

hey guys only posted on here a few times but all posts have been problems :mad:

you solved it last time so hopefully again this time :cool:

ok so over the last few months i keep getting a windows error message along the lines of windows delayed write failure on D: ( software on C: and documents on D: ) ... i googl'd this and found the windows help center, so followed there instructions about disabling cache writing....still doing it and it's begetting worse... now it does it randomly when nothing is running or i try moving things about, to the hard disk, etc it also does it when i.tunes is playing from time to time...

now looking in my McAfee OAS event log there are these system logs appearing:

Type: information
source: Application Popup

Application popup: Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file D:\$Mft. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

type: warning
source: Ntfs

type: error
source: Jraid

The device, \Device\Scsi\JRAID1, did not respond within the timeout period.

type: warning

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk1\D during a paging operation.

im thinking hard disk is buggered or driver or hardware.. it's really doing my head in and i have lots of uni work i dont wanna have to mess about getting a new drive etc (it is all backed up)

if it's saying that for a drive that is always present (ie, not an external drive)

then it's on it's way out

just replace it mate then RMA the current one if it's in warranty

sometimes a full disc format fixes that issue..

once you have, run a chkdsk on it first

Chkdsk??..bit of a noob when it comes to more indepth things

open the run command (windows key + R) type cmd and hit enter

brings up the command prompt type

chkdsk D:

replace D with whatever the drive letter you want to check

That will just check it, if there are errors run

chkdsk C: /F /V

that will run it, show you the full path and files that are problematic and then attempt to fix it.

If any of the files have open handles it won't run but will ask if you want to schedule for the next reboot

well not had this problem for quite a while now until the last few days where it kept propping up. but now i think the hard disk has died totally now. so first off sorry for doubting all you lot sayig it was about to die.. and 2. when i put it in the comp windows wont boot at all. now is there any way of gettgin all the data off that disk??
