Windows Xp Fails Install

ive installed an ide hdd and installed xp, i mucked it up and got ntldr missing so now trying to fix that. since i installed xp onto the ide hdd does that mean the sata is bust?

how do you mean you mucked up that file?? the system i quoted a while back with the faulty RAM, it got stuck on various files when installing. Once it managed to install all files (after a few retry's) and got as far as setting regional settings but no further as some of the files it got stuck on with corrupt. This was down to the memory.

no it did install it then i crashed the system and it dissapeared, maybe because i took out the sata hdd it screwed it up, i will run memtest tommorrow on it, so should i take the sata back though? as i installed on ide with no probs and sata didnt want any of it, i used both sticks of ram to install aswell. like i said before no errors on single ram sticks but did with dual channel, i have them in different dual channel sockets now so i will run memtest 2moz, if they are bad i will send them back but at least i have windows working. all i need to do now is to take back the sata, unless its a chipset issue? doughtful.

ok, so ive had another think about the issue.

i could format the sata but windows always failed to install with the sata.
there are no sata drivers only raid so i didnt use any floppy to instal drivers when it said press F6, windows recognised the disc and formatted so does this mean it doesnt need drivers?

so since it can be formatted does this mean is isnt bust?

i dont see why it didnt work if it isnt bust since i could install onto an ide hdd.

im using the intel sata ports for the hdd and dvdrw.

I had this, also with a samsung HDD. Go into the BIOS and select the drive you are trying to install on and set the access mode to Large. Solved it for me

Unless you are using a RAID setup you shouldnt need the SATA drivers.

thanks, that worked just installed windows, i now have 2 windows installs apparently when computer powers on i have to choose one so i have to fix the boot record.

I had a similar probem with the last celeron PC i made for a friend, get to the end of copying files and then reboot.. over and over

it turned out to be the PSU, would have a volt dip when cpu use was high and make the ram fail... damn cheapo power supply...

I had this kinda problem, it turned out that Linux had formated the disk a little "wonky" and when Windoz when to install it fell over it's self.....

Hi, setting the disk to large in bios worked for me, it was set to auto. F'in Mobo's!

Anywayz

i want to update bios but it wont boot from a floppy disc, dont know why but it doesnt like them. i will try a few more floppy discs 2night, does anybody know how to create a bios cd or why floppy wont boot?

Cheers
Westy
