Hi there,

I want to convert a hard disk of mine to NTFS, it is currently FAT32 and contains data which I do not want to loose. Does the "/fs:ntfs" conversion command damage the drive in any way?

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

Don't forget to specify a drive letter.

C:\>convert X: /fs:ntfs

edit - I thought that issuing the command without a drive letter automatically selects the system disk for convertion, apparently not.

done few times and never lost any data, but its better make a backup than to be sorry,
i dont remember but does it warn you you might loose your data?

i don't believe it warns you about possible data loss. i think it just advises against restarting your computer until it is complete

It won't usually damage the data but due to that nature of the operation, if it's interrupted, you could lose the whole volume and all data on it. It's similar to doing a firmware upgrade really.
