windows xp help please

i have nothing displayed in my device panel and if i try and open my computer it takes ages to open even in windows explorer some other functions are also slow, like 30sec to open.

what can i do to fix it ?

create a new windows user account and see if that has the same problem..

if your pc is going weird, then get straight to the panel like this..

start, run, control userpasswords

uphclean.exe might be worth installing to see if it fixes it

new user account didn't make any difference and uphclean didn't either

oh well it looks like i will have to gear my self up for a new install.

uninstall any programs you don't use

do you use spyware/antivirus protection? -try disabling them both and see if it effects the speed of the problem you're having..

try CCleaner, it clears out temp files and crap..

use the 'scan for errors' part too, does a quick reg scan

google for regseeker (i think hoverdesk? make it) its freeware, registry scanner, do a full scan and fix all issues..

worth a shot before pulling the plug
