I got xp home bundled on my packard bell machine i bought a few months ago, i have now cleared down windows and went to reinstall it, i didnt get a cd with the machine so have borrowed a friends disc. I have the authentic windows key on a sticker on the side of my machine but when i come to type it in it doesnt work. Anyone know what my options are or if i have to call microsoft? Bit stuck.

You should have made a recovery dvd (I think the option was in the Start menu) rather than formatting the drive. That would have returned everything to factory defaults.

If you use a key supplied for an OEM copy and install with a Retail copy, or another form of XP it won't work, the versions have to match. You get the idea... ;)

Packard Bell should supply you with a disk, if they say no, demand it......

My friend had his PB PC fail and had them pick it up and deliver a new one at no charge, plus they gave him a spanking new XP disk, with new key, so he now has 2 keys and an XP disk. Lucky for him, but you should at least have a disk for restoring the PC, if you don't have that, ring them and ask for one.
