Hi all,

Just installed a new 250gb western digital caviar SE, ATA-100 hard drive for my dads PC.

After putting in the XP disc to install i got to the partition stage, the hard drive is definatly the 250gb model, but it says the maximum partition size avaliable is 131069 MB (131 gb)

The XP disc is quite old, does it not show up hard drives more that 131gb? if not, then what can i do to claim back the missign 120gb after the install.

I searched for relevent posts with several searches but couldnt find anything so sorry if this has been mentioned before.

Cheers

Re you sure that the motherboard for the actual pc supports over 150gig.? Try and check motherboard manufacturers website for details of model number and whether there is a bios update to correct the problem (if that is of course the problem).

if its windows that causes *** problem, why not install as you would. update to sp2 as you would nrmally, then go to computer manager and use the newly found unused partition space to extend the primary partition?
