I've got a PC here that originally had Windows XP MCE 2005.
After a problem with the GFX the repair guy formatted and reinstalled windows XP MCE.

Problem is Media Centre is nowhere to be found, even though the version is Media Centre Edition.

I tried the Windows XP MCE CD, to fina an exe file that would install MC with no success.

Anyone knows how to install Media Centre on Windows XP MCE?

Last option for me would be to re-format and re-install from the recovery disk

It should be in there.

Win XP MCE is funny about drivers. And hardware some things will work other a wont.

Already checked there. It's not there.

I'm thinking if the guy who initially formatted used the same disk as I have here, there is no point in me re-installing it again. The version seems to be correct, I've tried updating with no luck and searching around yields no results.

Isnt there 2 discs with MCE ? I'm pretty sure the 2 disc is what makes it the media centre edition and is asked for during install. Did he perhaps cancel out of that if he didnt have the second disc?

Emm, no I only have 1 disc of Windows XP MCE 2005. No 2nd disc I'm afraid.

Have no idea if there are supposed to be two, but the PC came with 1.

Yup, definitely 2 discs as standard.

My TechNet downloaded isos are listed as follows.

Disc 1: en_winxp_mce_2005_cd1 (587mb)
Disc 2: en_WinXP_MCE_2005_cd2 (258mb)

Yes, I know what you mean, I used to have the Media Center pack for my XP machine years ago.

Just to clarify. The disc I have is the recovery disc from the manufacturer, but when inserted the Windows XP installation comes on. Also the disc size is over 2GB so it might be that using this disc installs MC as well.

I was just hoping not to re-install everything again as I spent quite some time installing all the updates, and software that are needed.

I'll ask the owner to look for any media center discs again.
