Hi,

Ive got a printer connected to and networked shared on a Windows XP box, and I need a Windows 7 PC to print to it.

The problem is, that when I added the printer to Windows 7 it auto chose the driver that the XP box provided, which wont work under windows 7....

I have updated the printer drivers on windows 7, and there is now a working driver for the printer on it, but I cant work out how to assign it to the network printer? In the printer properties on win7 the option to select the driver is disabled.

Is there anyway I can somehow add the win7 driver to the XP box? I tried under additional drivers, but it didnt have anything > XP.

So I guess I need a way to manually select which driver to use for an added network printer on windows 7  currently all those options are disabled.

Thanks for any help,

Jack

What I've done in the past is select add network printer and when it finds the printer tell it that it's not on the list, it will then let you set up the printer manually, stick in the printer's IP and then you should be able to choose the driver to install on the windows 7 box.

Thanks, when doing that, after entering the IP/Printer name it automatically just skips from 'detecting printer' to 'finishing installation'. No prompt to select drivers :(

I assume the actual drivers are installed on the win 7 box also?

I beleive after the printer is installed you can view it in device manager and click "update drivers" and manually select the ones you want also.
