i was going to post a thread on that, was wondering if adding a x1300pro to the x1900xtx added another process, seems it doesnt. :)

24?! Crikey, I've got 38 here. I've deleted the jusched.exe from the RunOnce but I need to check out the Creative ones and see which ones I can get rid of for my X-Fi. I've also gone into Services and made the PerfectDisk and Print Spooler services manual so they should only run when I need them.

my main pc has about 15 i think, this is my mum's dell

My advice is to have a look at the start up tab in msconfig and remove those items you dont need starting i.e. adobe helper ect. i would also try and remove any services that you dont need to start i.e. terminal services. a good guide can be found :

the trick is to remove all those things that you dont need to run automaticall if at all.

This will all depend on what you want your computer to do. i usaly run between 25-33 processes depending on what i'm doing, that includes firewall & AV.

use hjackthis instead, its 10x better than msconfig, that misses loads of entries

how on earth could hijackthis kill gamesaves? all it does is list startup programs and processes......

anyway 45 here, but hey i use my pc. i'm not anal about processes runnign in the background, so long as i have control over them.

21 processes running XP MCE on my Dell laptop Its actually 17 but the other 3 are for programs that I've installed.

A damn site better than with the default Dell installation. That came with 60+ running processes on first boot!

I have 62 currently running on this laptop...
(But lots open)

Most of the "unused" processes load, get paged and never get called again.

If you are low on memory then disabling the tasks/services/programs is good but if you have plenty of memory - Then the number of running processes isn't really much of an issue.

You'll notice a lot of them have about 1 or 2 seconds of CPU time over the course of 1 or 2 days.
So in terms of "resource usage" they hardly use any at all.

Generally I wouldn't worry too much about it. Clean out the ones you don't use using StartupCPL (or autoruns by sysinternals for more in-depth) and that should be you fine. :)
