Is the x64 edition of XP the same as x86 for gaming performance?

Tempted to go from Vista to XP but I'd like all my ram to be available but only if the x64 edition is well supported now (it wasn't a while ago)

Got a few niggles with Vista especially because Crysis runs like excrement compared to XP.

Anyone using x64 now? :)

I remember seeing that althougt it was better then Vista it was still short of XP 32. If you're going to go XP, go 32 bit for games at this point in time. 3.5GB limit is still plenty for Crysis and you'll get the increased framerates.

Ahhh fair enough then, may just have to do that. :)

I have 4gb Ram with Vista64 and I'd heard that 4gb is a waste of time with XP, but surely it's visually impossible to see differences between 4gb and 3.5gb (or whatever the exact amount is). I say go for it and don't let the RAM issue stop you.

I have just sold my 2gb of my 4gb memory...so I'm running on just 2 again.

I have noticed absolutely no difference in ANYTHING in XP x64..but have noticed a significant loss of performance in Vista 64. Vista is still very fast, but it was just incredibly snappy and Alt-tabbing out of games didn't lag the puter AT ALL...now it does.

As for a performance difference between 32bit XP and 64bit XP, I don't think there is one. I haven't noticed one anyway....

Cheers, I do have a XP32 partition purely for my iPod Touch (not x64 compatible yet) and that recognizes it as 3.5Gb which I guess is fine.

I'll have to go with XP32 since I really cba having to dual boot like I am now just to manage my iPod.

Darn you Apple.

Before you go ahead, I noticed you said you were only tempted. The XP temptation is a powerful thing, but more often than not the Grass is never greener on the other side.

If you have 2 hard drives checkout my thread form last week. It may just serve it's intended purpose.

I'm sorry for pimping my own thread twice now. It's just the perfect solution for those XP temptations. Best of all when you (and you will) return to Vista you can act like it never happened. Obviously you said you can boot to XP already, but you also have no interest in dual booting.

Hmm yeah, I may do a reinstall anyway because I'm changing my GTX for a 8800GT, only thing is rebooting to XP just to play Crysis gets a bit tedious. :o
