hi there.

if i was getting a new laptop (and they all seem to have windows7 now) whats the minimum amount of ram you really need for it to run properly?

2GB is the min if ur runnin win 7 x64 if ur only runnin x86 then 1gb maybe fine just for general use but cango upto 2GB if ur gonna be playin sum games

going 64bit will have no bearing on the PC at 1Gb or 2Gb. You could run x64 with 1Gb and see no difference between the 32bit version also running 1Gb

For me, 1GB is the absolute minimum really. 2GB is fine. 4GB is better.

I have 2GB in my main machine and the only time I wish for more RAM is when I'm mucking around with VMs.

2gb for music/internet/office
4gb for anything else

I'd have to agree.

I took some ram out the other day (to test some old kit I had lying around), and with just 1gb left I noticed a *lot* more disk activity in w7, just browsing the net. Whilst it wasn't unusable, it was annoying.

I have 2GB with my notebook and Windows 7 Ultimate x64. (Soon to go to 4GB) and it is running perfectly fine.

I believe it's (64bit) between a 10-50% increase in ram usage depending on the app in question. In reality it seems to average around 20% (compared to 32bit) more ram used for most things.
