Windows7 punkbuster

Yup, there is a tweak which sorted out Punkbuster for BF2 for me in Win 7, not tried out COD4 or any other PB game yet. I mainly play Source games

Ooh, you got BF2 to work with above tweak or some other clever trickery pokery? One of the main reasons I uninstalled an earlier release of W7 was due to PB incompatibility at the time. Care to share?

If there is a work around I will jump straight back into W7! :D

Download & use the updater and the service updater. Haven't done any more that that (7077 x64) but mind you, UAC is off.
BF2 works perfectly, and thats all I'm worried about.

Yep I did, this tweak did not work on bulid 7068 but as soon as I upgraded to 7100 it worked great and PB didn't kick me out of BF2 and I was on for at least half an hour, PB normally kicked within a few minutes beforehand

I'm going to play some PR later for an extended time I'll let you know how I get on, but with 7068 I couldn't play BF2 for more than 3 miutes without PB kicking me.

Hey guys,

Tried the above solution (quoted by coolasmoo), but it didn't work for more than three minutes, so I tried "troubleshooting compatibility" on the off chance that it might help, it suggested I use XP compatibility, so I did. I didn't run the bat file, and it worked for 45-80 minutes in a server online. =)

Edit: That's not to say it stopped working, I just have to go out.

I've got PB working perfectly in BF2 at least on Build 7100. I ran the service installer from the Punkbuster website followed by the updater. Then I found the two exe files in windows/syswow64/ and critically had to edit the security preferences to give me (user/xxx) full control. Only once I had done that would PB no kick me in game for lack of rights.

Simply put, PunkBuster is the worst anti-cheat software, EVER - period. Always has been, always will be.. I still can't comprehend or see why game devs/studios go for PunkBuster, it is absolutely dire and has never stopped cheaters playing at all.. It just causes crashes, errors, etc.. I always get RAM Memory Errors with it when I was on Vista x64, not played a game since I installed Win7 with it though..

Thank you Sparx for resurrecting a two week old thread for the sole purpose of having a pop at PB. The OP was specifcally looking for a way to get them working and you haven't even run the two together so you are completely unable to constructively contribute to this thread

Just noticed something....

Just reinstalled Punkbuster - whilst running the 'Test Services' bit it says:

Checking firewall settings
Is PnkBstrA explicitly allowed?
C:\Windows\system32\PnkBstrA.exe NO
Is PnkBstrB explicitly allowed?
C:\Windows\system32\PnkBstrB.exe NO

When i looked at the Firewall, there were Punkbuster entries - So i looked in C:\Windows\system32\ and neither were there files were there!
Looking at the services, both were pointing at C:\Windows\system32\
In Processes, they are both pointing at C:\Windows\SysWOW64

Could that have something to do with why its not working in W7?

It should work now with build 7100. I have been playing COD4 all week, a few servers have kicked me but they probably need a pb update.
