hi all can anyone shed some light on Windscreen Claims please
I need a whole new screen as i have a nice crack working its way up the middle

Am 3rd party f & t with £60 ex to pay

my main question is who pays the guy that fits it ? ect

thanks for any help

If you have windscreen cover, (check you do with third party)

I just contact Auto glass they repair it and collect the excess from me at the point of repair.

You need to make sure the repairer is approved by you insurance compay, or ring them and they will recommend one for you.

I seem to have either a chip or screen replacement every year.

For as long as I've been driving (16 years now) I've never had to have a windscreen repaired or replaced.
*Quickly looks for some wood to touch*

The adverts for "Autoglass" on the radio kind of indicate you simply call them and they do everything for you.
Contact insurance, arrange fitting, send paperwork to insurance company etc.
Old "One call does it all" kind of advert.

You've never had a windscreen chip?

I've never noticed any chips on the windscreen of any car I've owned.
I've never had any pointed out to me during an MOT.

I'm sure if I looked corner to corner something might come up.
However in the 16 years I've been driving I've never had the need to use a glass company for repairs or replacement.

Same here, more or less. I did have a mobile fitter come and put a new windscreen in my AX GTi, but that's because the screen was cracked when I bought it. I've never had a crack or chip appear during ownership of any of my cars in err... a bit more than 16 years :D

1. Rang Direct Line
2. They contacted the glass dudes, cant remember if was Autoglass or RAC..?
3. Dude rang me
4. came out, replaced windscreen
5. took my £60 excess

Job done.

No, not for one windscreen replacement. Multiple claims for windscreens might raise some eyebrows though.

Just ask them how many you get per year when you phone up. It's usually 1 full replacement and 1 chip repair per year.

Every time I've had a windscreen replaced, they just took the £60 from my insurer and they passed the cost on to me. Never had to pay there and then to the autoglass man.

little update

Ooops on my part its £60 to add glass cover stuiped me trying to save a few bob never tock it out and cant untill june when its renewal time

So am paying the full cost :( but its only going to be £138 all in :) so not that upset

Autoglass wanted £447.50 every where else was around the £150-£160 mark then i get these guys that my insureance comp use call me and say right ok so you want £120 mark plus vat £138 all in see you tomorrow :)

What? It's normally £60 excess for a new screen. The screen for my car from Honda is £314, sod that!

Never had a chip or crack here either (touch wood).

Had a side window replaced though. Can't remember what the problem with it was

Yeah but be warned they do put your policy up and hammer you for it, even though it dont effect your no claims it sure does increase your policy by quite abit.
I have had two screens now in 3 yrs, guess I have been unlucky, mind you I do motorway a lot.

Balderdash. I've had 3 screens in as many years with the same insurer, and my policy has been consistantly going DOWN not up in cost.

(And before you say it, its not NCB related, as I've now got 7 years (maximum being 5).

I've only used them once when some idiot but through my back window...

Called Autoglass, arranged it. They confirmed the insurance details and then got a callout, paid the guy £60 excess on card when he'd done the job.

No its not no claims related, they still increased my policy though, even though it never affected my no claims, wonder if my company ( Budget ) are pulling a fast one, wonder where I could check on that one, as they told me windscreen claims make the policy increase.

If it was at renewal time, every single insurance company bumps the price up its to catch people too lazy to shop around.

I've never been insured with the same company two years in a row.
