Windscreen replacement

Fair enough we shall see what happens next I guess - thanks for replying :)

Heat should've made it easier if anything I think, certainly was still high 20's when spotted the issue. Just realized at lunch actually that all along the top the seal doesn't sit flat on the window frame either

Argue the fact that you will keep calling them out to replace the part that doesn't fit as it should and cost them more money in the long run. You have lifetime warranty for the period you own the car for the work done. It will cost them money, although it will be some faff upon yourself.

They will see this and replace with genuine Honda parts. I had the same issue with Autoglass last year when they replaced my windscreen twice and the rain sensor AR coating was bubbling on each one. In the end I said exactly the above and they then authorised a BMW windscreen.

I feel your pain, the last screen i had took three visits, the last of which from a more senior guy who claimed he just remedied problem cases.

This was on a Range Rover. Originally they came out with an incorrect part (wrong coupling for the electronics in the screen), the second time they fitted the screen but upon driving it, the trim was all loose and caused a whistle. How this company operate in profit i am not quite sure :p

So i'm now gutted that I even bothered getting them to redo the windscreen.

The new windscreen seal/trim has the exact same problem as the first, except the second guy has;
Taken notches out of the side of the trim where it meets the glass presumably where it wasn't flexible enough
Chipped the top edge of my front wing and scratched the leading edge of the bonnet :(

He also pre-filled in the survey on my behalf (all extremely satisfied no doubt) - literally clicking the response to the question before he'd finished asking it

I know my cars not new (it's a 2004/5) but it angers me that it's now got this damage caused by someone else's incompetence - wouldn't mind so much if it was at least my doing

If that happened to me I'd be on the phone immediately giving them hell for it.

Take photos of the damage, send them to them and demand that they sort it all out. Don't let it lie and keep on top of them every day.

I don't know how they work with directors/managers but see if you can get their emails and send everything to them too.

I've noticed customer service from incompetent companies seems to suddenly become very fast and efficient once a director sees the issue. Funny that!

the age of the car shouldnt come into it tho. i had a problem with auto glass and they damaged my bonnet on an old vauxhall frontera i had. eventually they agreed to have the bonnet repainted and that made it a dif color to the rest of the car. eventually i managed to get a full respray out of them for a 14 year old car

Penning an email at the moment - unfortunately I'm running lots of code today so can't get away from my desk and don't want to be complaining around colleagues.

Few photos of the bits in question

Window trim is the same all the way up the drivers side and a couple of places on passenger side

Still not fitting right, the fitter told me it would most likely stretch to fit over the next few weeks - a complete and utter lie!

Scuttle panel also isn't fitted properly (sits proud) so i'm guessing there's broken clips under there too :(

I am amazed that "Progress" has managed to make the replacement of what is essentially a consumable item (like Tyres) into such a ballache.

Back in the day when Windscreens were retained by nothing more than a big rubber gasket. A windscreen could be replaced in less than 10 minutes (I had the cracked old screen and the new one fitted on an old VW T3 in little more than the time it took for me to get my wallet out!)

You could even do it yourself relatively easily

And you could drive away immediately afterwards.

Isn't progress wonderful :/

Yes, but in the days of that, cars weren't exactly quiet inside at motorway speeds.
They also didn't have airbags to push the glass out the car.

This is unfortunately why a lot of the windscreen trade gets such a bad reputation. There's very few fitters that are car enthusiasts themselves and give a damn about other people's pride and joy

Damage to that trim panel is appalling. How the guy thought that was acceptable workmanship is beyond me.

I had the windscreen replaced on one of my Rovers and the interior A pillar trims were scratched and scuffed to hell afterwards. Sad really, but I didn't quite have the heart to start kicking off over some cheap plastic panels on a £500 car (the car meant more to me than £500 but you have to be realistic). Perfect example of how little respect some people have for other people's belongings.

Glad it's not just me that would expect a little better than that :D

Ironically took a pair of wheels from my sisters cars to have new tyres and they've done this damage all around the inside of both wheels. Haven't even looked at the faces yet.

I hate dealing with other people. It is exactly this sort of stuff that makes me do most work on my cars myself.

I took my alloys to have new tyres fitted and each rim had four sets of three holes like those - I ask now if they use those type of wheel holders as they went out years ago according to the place I use now.

As regards windscreens I had one changed on my Focus - I asked for OEM and they said no problem but it will cost you an extra 400 quid - - I had what they had in.

I think it's a safety thing. In the old days the entire windscreen would fly out during a crash. Saw it myself, it ended up 30 meters down the road still intact. It could have taken someone's head off O_o

But yea, the electronic handbrake is an example. Not really needed (and mostly hated), but makes changing the brakes take far longer and needs ECU re-calibration every time.

Bang on the money - on both wheels there were 4 very deep sets of 3 holes with scrapes coming out of them and around the inside of the wheel.

Latest update on the windscreen saga;

They want me to take my vehicle to their depot 'for our base technician xxxxx yyyyyy to go over the trims and scuttle problems you have concerns with' which to me sounds like they want me to go out of my way to travel to them for them to try and explain why I'm being unreasonable.

Damage wise; 'regards the paintwork damage, please see attached image of a pre-inspection external damage and your signature to confirm the damage to your vehicle. S = scratch P = paint damage'

The 'pre-inspection' was supposedly signed by me to confirm yet I didn't even meet the guy until after he'd finished due to meetings. It also doesn't flag up any scratch or paint damage relating to the area I'm complaining about.

Would my insurance company care if I tried to complain to them also or is it purely down to me and autowindscreens now?

Edit: Also kicked off the complaint to Halfords as I meant to over the weekend. Not really bothered about the resolution there though, on that one it's more the principle. The windscreen it's my car which I was about to spend a chunk of money on making pristine so I'm a lot more precious about that not being left in the state they found it.

Does your car insurance included legal cover, get them on it.

One of my policies does but I can't remember which, will dig out the paperwork.

To be fair I'm overdue a complaint to my insurance co anyway as they charged me £60 excess for the windscreen instead of the £50 my policy documents quoted.

Btw I feel the need to state I'm not as much of a complainer as I probably come across right now :p
