Windscreen washer fluid

No idea if it has heated jets or not... the car is under 3yrs old.

and about this min/max thing, my old car had this so i just assumed that theres some sort of a reason for the indicator being there? as said before, i don't really know much about things underneath the bonnet

What model is the car?

Just fill it to the top... that is what I do.

My S2000 actually has a "dipstick" attached to the underside of the cap so in theory if I wanted to I could check my fluid level but yeah....pour it in till your toes get wet, put the lid on, job done.

Digital Oil level gauges are the devil though, I gave up after a few minutes looking for a dipstick on a 3-Series :o :D Hate them, the update rate is SO damn slow. Took it over 30 minutes of driving to realise I put 2 litres in and to stop whining at me!

Yep, I bought 5 litres on undiluted fluid for about 10 quid. It is also very good stuff.

With the 6+ discount for fluids/parts at most dealers it's even cheaper :)

I just use Halfords (not pre-mixed with water) washer fluid and mix it when refilling. Never had a problem....

it's a 118d m sport. just had a look on the bmw website and looks like this model comes with heated washer jets. even though the specs on there are referring to new cars, but i'm guessing a 3yr old car won't be that much more different

Personally I would pop into your local dealer, buy some BMW fluid and then you know you won't have any problems.

In canada no-one used heated washer jets because if it was -45 outside then you don't want to be spraying something that is well above 0 on your windscreen!

The screenwash was sold not to freeze down to anywhere between -30 or -50 depending on how much you paid. Heated washer jets seem a total waste of time to me. I never had any problems, didn't have heated jets and everything worked fine at -35 which was the coldest I saw.

How would having heated or non-heated jets prevent the washer fluid being heated by residual heat from the engine, and warm fluid hitting the screen anyway?

I can tell you that when it's -35 outside if you have water in there no matter now long you drive for it won't unfreeze. Besides how would the engine unfreeze your rear jets?

Only reason people were against heated jets was just the fear of cracking the screen when it's that cold outside...

Why would anyone only change washer fluid once a year during service? That would mean they only use it a few times a year - this is the UK, you can't not use it a few times a month at the very least.

its just some people are too simple to change it.

i only did 36k miles in my old car (was 6 yrs old). apart from the annual service top up, i think it was only topped up twice.

So.. how's your oil looking?
i actually have no idea.. this is the first time i've opened up the bonnet since i got the car 4 months ago. looks completely diff to my old car and i don't know where the dipstick is, but anyways i won't be asking you guys anymore..

It won't have a dipstick, you will get a light on the dash if the oil runs low.

My car had blocked washer jets when I got it, had to remove the tank and flush the slime out.
