Hi

I took my car in today to get the windscreen replaced (cracked).

Just picked the car up and there are lots of marks in the paintwork around the new trim. I have rung up and they said they will NOT have done this (seemed quite insistant) but agree to have a look at it this afternoon when they are back from another job. I am 100% sure these weren't there originally (admittedly the paintwork isn't in the best condition but I do know where all the scratches / marks are and these I am sure are new).

Now, they are not overly deep (can feel some with finger nail) and would probably come out with an aggressive polish - but are very noticeable and I don't see why I should have to take the responsibility for sorting it.

Am I being anal about this? The car is black so marks in the paint show up really easily.

What should I do? I am pretty sure they will deny doing it though and without proof I can't really do anything about it I would have thought. It is an insurance job and I am prepared to ring the insurance company if they refuse to sort it..

What would you do? (Fox - you are probably as anal as me about paintwork - what would you do?!? :D).

I wouldnt be having a claim over some scratches thats for sure.

This is why i stay and watch over anything like this or tyres being fitted.

Be having a claim? The windscreen was sorted through the insurance, I just meant if the local company refused to fix it I would ring the insurance back to let them know what has happened in case they can throw any weight...

Edit - oh and re tyres being fitted, another local company scratched my allows to **** removing the wheel weights last week.

Why is everyone in the motor trade incapable of doing a decent job.

Ah i see, yea you could try that i suppose.

Had a simular incident with my Focus when I took it in to my local tyre specialist to get 3 tyres replaced and I watched them carry out the work, the first guy who started the job took the 3 wheels off. The first 2 wheels he took of he chucked them straight onto the floor on the alloy side but the third wheel he chucked it on the opposite side and as a result these 2 wheels now have a large scuff on both of them.

I did not know that they were scuffed until he picked up the wheels off the ground to take them to the tyre remover and as soon as I saw them he saw my face and then he suddenly said "il be back in one moment". 5 minutes go by and another member of staff comes by and decides to take over the job and finishes replacing the tyres for me. I'm not overly fussed about it but I thought at the time that I could put in a complaint for my scuffed alloys but I would have no proof that it was one of their members of staff who did it and they would say it could have been me curbing my alloys. To be fair all 4 of the alloys on my focus do have there fair share of scratches and a couple of curb marks but the big scuffs done by that member of staff at the tyre centre are the most noticable.

I just don't understand why people who work with cars dont give a **** - do these people have no pride in their work?!

Result! The chappy just popped over to the house. Seemed a lot more agreeable tan he did on the phone and said that the marks will have been made by them. He arranged to get them polished out for me next week no bother.

No doubt there will be swirl marks and what not left behind but hey ho at least the scratches will be gone!

Nice result.

What company was this? When Autoglass replaced mine we went round the car prior to the replacement to mark down any marks and scuffs to avoid this problem.

I'd rather not say the company name seeing as they have agreed to sort it out for me. It is an indie company local to me though who seem to get work passed to them by various larger places. They have been around for ages so clearly most people are happy with them.

Next time I get anything like this done I will make sure I stay with the car all the time / get them to sign a condition form like Autoglass do just tobe on the safe side!

Cheers :)

I hate how they think you won't notice! At least if they tell you at the time they messed up but will fix it.

I chipped the frame of a £1700 pushbike once.....reynolds 853 tubing :( They guy was rather understanding though.
