Winows 7 slow to get network connection?

With XP the network connection was there immediately after starting up but with windows 7 i find it takes anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds or more to actually get an ip and show it's connected to the internet, why so slow?

Im still having this issue, it takes a few minutes to show a working network icon and even then it's a bit slow to connect to sites, whats going on?

It can be slow at auto config, yes. Set your IP manually or add a DHCP reservation on your router.

To anyone else having this problem, i seem to have mostly removed the delay by changing a few things in services to manual startup (you can also try delayed automatic), i disabled print spooler and .net framework ngen v4, there's also some sort of hp printer service thats the most common thing causing it, i didn't have it myself, setting a manual ip like above may also speed things up as well.
