disable your AV program, and go into the options for windows defender, and disable real-time scanning

On xp , I did when did that bench, on vista on the other hand, I don't have AV since I consider it unneeded, defender also disabled.

Still, 960ish kb in xp and 860 ish in vista isnt bad at all isnt it for a 3.9 ghz pentium D ?
