WinRAR slow to open // Alternatives ?

Custom icon packs that I made, to replace the old looking ones that come with it.

Windows 7 cream
Windows XP black
Windows XP cream

To patch your current file..

Works with v9.20 and above

  1. Download this
  2. Create C:\7zip
  3. Extract 7z file to that folder
  4. Close 7zip
  5. Copy your 7z.dll from %programfiles%\7zip to C:\7zip
  6. Run the #icons patcher 2013 and follow the menu system
  7. Copy the new 7z.dll back to the %programfiles%\7zip folder
  8. Open 7zip File Manager in admin mode, Tools, Options, set your associations, then click OK
  9. May require a restart to show up

Any icon pack will work with any version of Windows.

Nice!! :)

but any chance of making the Icons bigger?? 32dpi x 32dpi on my system is a little too small... :)

Off the top of my head, I think the ones I made were 16x16, 32x32 and 48x48. What size do you want, I'm sure I could add them in when I'm bored. I'd have to re-create them from scratch, I used a mixture of Paint.net and iconmaker trial http://www.icon-maker.com/

Personally, I use detail view on all folders, so I only see the 16x16 and then 48x48 on the Desktop.

If you feel like copying the same colour scheme and use a font that works for the icons, I'll just add them into my .ico files.

I had a play in Photoshop and icoFX (which I've used for years!! :) )

Told it to use 16x16, 32x32, 48x48 and 265x256, ran the 'Custom' option in the batch file and it worked :)

And you think that I've not seen it?

Does this look right to you?

http://m.tomshardware.com/reviews/winrar-winzip-7-zip-magicrar,3436-6.html

If you check out pages 9/10 they test all four programs using a .zip file instead of their proprietary formats.

If what you mean is that they are compressing .zip using different methods, that's because the "standard" .zip algorithm form the 1980's is a proprietary format and Winzip have licensed its use from PKware, 7zip uses its own more efficient algorithm, I'm not sure which method the Rar programs are going with, but it doesn't really matter as the eventual zip file can be opened by any zip software so as long as 7zip is doing it fastest and managing to make the smallest file at the same time I would say its doing the best job.

Christ. If you don't know what you're looking at then it's pointless continuing this line of conversation. The point is that review is hogwash....

Anyway.... I've found what I've been looking for here

As good as 7zip is can it be used to split and still play 4.36+GB mkv video files?
I don't really have to worry about it now as blu-ray has become affordable, but before this I use to use winrar to backup my 8GB mkv's onto 2 DVD-Rs and nearly all media players (VLC, XBMC) can play the rars without extraction when using the store option!
