Thinking of booking a weekend away later this year (Oct-Dec time). We fancy going somewhere cold for a change. Current thinking is perhaps Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm or tallinn, but to be honest we don't know much about any of them. Budget is not great, so am thinking that although the cities might be pricey, the flights will be much cheaper than going somewhere out in the sticks.

Any suggestions?

I just came back from Copenhagen today, great place, flights were cheap £169 for 2 adults and an infant. It's cheaper than Oslo for sure.

Ye give Oslo a miss unless you either want to spend, or are prepared to seriously budget. Its a great city though.

I've been to Prague and Berlin in February for a winter break. Both were damn cold but really nice trips.

I went to Oslo for work last Jan and I'd second the opinion that it's just too expensive to enjoy. Admittedly I didn't make much attempt to budget my meals seen as I wasn't paying, but I don't think I ever ate an evening meal for under £60-70; just for me! Crazy.

Likewise for Stockholm, Sweden/Norway are both very expensive!!

Ditto for Iceland. Trying to get away there, but unless we go for a silly 3 day package deal its quite hard to justify the cost of hotels and entertainment. Flights are reasonable but that's about it. :(

Thanks for all the suggestions.

We've been to Krakow, and Prague is on the list too, but didn't consider it for a winter trip.

That's a shame about Oslo being expensive. I found a good deal on a hotel and cheap flights, but £60-70 a meal will soon make up the difference!! I'll research and try and find some cheap eateries. I really like the look of the toboggan run!

Riga is worth a look and possibly Vilnius, though I have only tried the former. Tallinn is a great winter destination and not overly expensive.

korketrekkeren toboggan, yea it's great fun. was there just over a year ago. did not like oslo as a city, just not my cup of tea (but then I'm a country bumpkin at heart) but jump on the tram/metro thingy and head into the mountians - glorious. I managed to get roaring drunk at the top of the toboggan run - cost me a small fortune but was well worth it. think is was about 6-7 quid per glass of wine (yes glass)
can't even buy beer out of the supermarket after 8!
