Going to buy myself a winter jacket but not sure whats the best way to go

fleece jacket and separate over wind/rain over jacket? or a heavy duty jacket?

going to be outside quite a bit over the winter and really need to be keeping warm and dry. Multi layers best way to go?

I bought a berghaus goretex about 4 years ago for the same reason and it has been fantastic, I don't think I can ever think of a time when I've been wearing it and I've been cold, and its cold up north :p It's a goretex shell with a removable fleece lining (never take it out other than to wash)

Only after four years has it started to wear around the cuffs, even so it still looks good and doesn't leak, only cost about £160 too

jackwolf skin any good? was thinking of buying a separate fleece and out jacket rather than having them built in but yes that sounds the best way to go.

Go multi-layer.

Jacket just get a decent ski jacket. Trespass normally have a good selection of decent quality/technology vs price. I wouldn't get an insulated one as it just limits usability (unless you know your going to the Artic?) Gortex is the best if you want to stay dry, but anything over 10,000mm will do the trick. Make sure the breath-ability is also quite high 8k +?
