Advice needed please.
I've got an Alfa giulia quad, that I got earlier in the year & use as a daily driver. It's currently on Goodyear eagle F1 supersports which have been fine in summer.

As I live in Cumbria, as you can well imagine, most of the time in winter it's wet or very wet. If it's ice or snow it will get left at home & I'll take the transit custom with general grabbers on it.
I've never had a rwd car with this much poke before & I'm not convinced by the current tyres in the wet. Not that it gets hammered. I just don't really feel I can trust them.

Should I be swopping them out for a winter or cross climate tyre over winter? If so any recomendations appreciated.

Thanks.

If you spend the money on all-seasons guarantee we'll have the mildest winter ever...

If living somewhere like that it is definitely worth considering something like the Cross Climate 2s. Though if we get proper ice there is no substitute for winter tyres.

There are plenty of summer touring tyres which handle well in the wet though, even on a tail happy RWD car.

This is a tricky one because the whole point of all season tyres is that they blend the compromise of dry summer performance for better winter performance with the convenience of being able to run the same tyre all year round. But if you are going to the bother of swapping tyres over you may as well get dedicated summer and winter tyres...

...but you've also said that where a true winter tyre comes into it's own you'll not be driving the car anyway.

I've gone all season on both my company car and my wifes Polo and I'll never be going back to summer tyres, BUT these are 125 BHP and 90 BHP machines with a sole objective of transporting people and things to places. I'd certainly not recommend them for someone who has a performance car or enjoys exploring their cars handling when weather permits.

Crossclimate 2 tend not to be very competitive in the super wet - the Vector 4Season Gen 3 will be a better tyre :-)

All season tyres? Really? It's a 500bhp rear wheel drive performance car, in the summer you don't want it on a set of middle of the range all season tyres, you want it on a set of quality high performance tyres.

I'd instead have a set of winter tyres for the winter and summer tyres for the summer, this will provide you with the best tyre for the conditions at all times rather than the compromise of all season tyres. All season tyres have their place but I don't think it's the right choice here.

Agreed. My pilot super sports have already started struggling with the damp roads and below 10C weather. I imagine a Giulia Q would be even more of a handful tha my M140!

Some good comments in this thread, but if you are happy to use the Transit in the snow or ice then it sounds like what we need to address here is the Eagle F1 supersports and possibly replace those with a better UHP tyre - one that gives confidence in the wet.

I used to have a Mustang that was supercharged, made about 600bhp to the rear wheels. It had good tyres on - Bridgestone Potenza Sport but when the temp was below say 9ºC they broke away very abruptly. I repalced them with some Continental Sport Contact 7s - amazing. I think similarly here, perhaps get those supersports changed for the Conti's or similar and you can enjoy the safety in the wet.

Just looking at Tyre Review and one of the first summaries on the supersports is - Negative - Low grip in the wet with long wet braking distances, low aquaplaning resistance.

EDIT: If you do want to use it in winter then yes a set of winter tyres would be best and swap them over or get a second set of alloys and store them for when needed. :)

In just the wet winter tyres aren't better TBH. "Summer" tyres sold in the UK are actually wet tyres. Winter tyres are obviously good for snow but how many days are the roads covered in snow per year.

If your drive like miss daisy, as your OP suggests, then you'll be fine on what you've got.

This is my plan. Stay out of race mode when wet, use A mode if it is very cold and wet and don't even think about it if the ground is white. Going from the original Corsa tyres to P4S made a big difference.

He's running Eagle F1s. Not exactly terrible in the wet. Drive sensible and he'll be fine while they're cold.

However, I used to pray for rain and ice... you guys are lame
