Winzip - Or Similar ?

Hi All,

Can anyone please let me know if a OSX 10.5 should be able to extract windows winzip files by default ? , or do i need some special software ?

Yes, a zip is a zip, and it's built in.

I use Stuffit Expander.

It's built in, but you can use a third party app if you want.

i must be doing something wrong then, as when i try to open the zip file in documents it gets opened by archive utility (default) and then gets compressed into another PGFX or similar compressed file ?

Try using Stuffit Expander.

Maybe this PGFX file is actually what the ZIP contains? There's not much room for the process to go wrong :confused:

Ive never heard of a PGFX file. What is it supposed to be? Text? Video? Music? an App?

it's a winzip file with jpg's only. I am a mac newbie so am totally confused why
when i try to open winzip file it opens with the archive utility and is converted to a *.cpgz file :confused:

look like this is similar , but what has changed in 10.5, Is this a Bug, Should i go to the apple store, as i am still unsure why i can not open a winzip file

Anyone else here with 10.5 having similar problems ?

My zipping is working fine on Leopard.

Try this generic zip file created with ALZip in Winblows; here.

Right click and hold down option when the contextual menu appears.

Then just choose "Always open with", and BOOM! job done.

just did that and i only have the default app of Archive utility.app, if i choose other app i can't find stuffit at all in finder ?
