I need to sell on a Lacie 1Tb BigDisk. It is what I used to use for doing weekly backups of my computer. It has USB2.0, Firewire 400 and 800 interfaces. Can anyone recommend any software that will be able to securely and permanently wipe all data off the drive to prevent any possible fraud? Thank you!

I am not all that knowledgable on computers, but from reading this am I to understanding that just right clicking and fomatting the drive information would remain on it?

The data is wiped once from the drive, and the data could be recovered yes.

Dban is one of the best tools I have used for getting rid of data as it passes over the drive multiple times. And its free!

Data is not removed when you format a drive. It simply marks the areas on the disk as "available" so it can be overwritten. The data is still on the drive until new data overwrites it.

I see, many thanks for the infomation, I was really asking as will be installing a new OS, and formatting my existing drive. In this case security is not an issue so I guess a normal format will be ok.

Thnaks for all the help
