Today is a day of problem solving:rolleyes:

Original plan was to go with Nest wired smoke alarms in the house reviews seem great and the system works and integrates easily with other systems, but the BCO wants a heat only sensor in the kitchen, Nest don't have the ability to disable the smoke sensor and the wife wants to avoid the commercial looking alarms in the house which wouldn't link with the Nest.
I'm exploring other options if anybody can offer any advice? in this mornings research I've found Bosch and fireangel smart systems but they don't seem to be as popular as the Nests.

Is there a reason you want to link to nest?

For a system that just works Aico is the way to go really.

Thanks I'll take a look at Aico, can't say I've heard about them?

Building regs says all the alarms must interlink, Nest don't do a heat only alarm.

Aico are the market leader, you wont find them on sale for instance because they don't need to sell at a reduced price to shift the things.

You want the 3000 series, will do everything you want and more and the most important part is they will be reliable.

You can hardwire interlink them or radio link them.

Smartlink gateway is worth a look if you want to get your geek on.

Cheers, much appreciated just seen the hardwire interlink option not noticed it on other brands, I'm gonna be running these on their own ring of 1.5 t&e I've not run this yet so could quite easily exchange this for 3 core 1.5 and not rely on wireless at all.

If you aren't looking to use the smart gateway then that's what I would do if you are running cables anyway, saves in cost.

Need to do a bit more reading, but would like the app notification like the Nest. @ZG002 do you work in this field?

That's either a lot of for alarms or they use a lot of power. 1mm would be more than enough, I have 1mm and that runs all the lights as well.

Take it from someone who ran 3 core solid 1.5mm cable to do this same job (I had it on hand) it's a complete pain. 1mm is so much easier to manipulate and terminate into the alarms :p.

These are what I bought, which was before the 3000 series was released I think:

EI146RC optical - hallway
EI146RC optical - landing
EI144RC heat alarm - kitchen
Ei261ENRC carbon monoxide - kitchen
Ei1529RC wall mounted switch to isolate/silence alarms *

* You're meant to have one of these so you can identify which type of alarm it was that went off. With interlinked alarms all of them go off when any of them detect anything, so you don't know if it was because of carbon monoxide or the heat sensor in the kitchen. When you press the locate button only the alarm(s) that are detecting will keep bleeping.

I bought all mine from https://www.superlecdirect.com/ which were the cheapest I could find, they still seem to be one of the cheapest.

I’m not sure why you want/need app notifications for your fire alarms.

They are designed to alert you to a fire in your home, if your home the loud siren is the give away.

The fire service or the police don’t normally attend alarms unless they are confirmed by a person.

As others have said, install hard wired AICO alarms and know that in 10 years time you can just slip the old one off the base and slide in a new one.

Who knows if the nest servers will even be alive in 10 years time given Google’s track record for just killing products with no notice.

I can confirm this from my time as a key holder for a large retail chain. They will simply not turn up because an alarm is going off. Only if you saw a person in the premises or flames are licking out the roof.

Oh if you want to attempt a DIY "smart" option you may want to look at their relay module which can trigger a 240v/24v device when the alarm is sounding. You could hook it into an Arduino/Raspberry Pi or something (you'd need some extra bits of electronics).

Clearly, obviously, this shouldn't be relied on, but you could use it to trigger a push alert to your phone or something when it starts going off.

What products have google killed with no notice?

Do you really need to ask that? Google kill services indiscriminately all the time, perhaps ‘with no notice’ should be replaced with ‘with no care given to its users’. There is literally a website called google graveyard which tracks it all.

I looked through the list and all I see is crap that was never used or never really needed.

Google hangouts being the clear favourite.

That was a messaging app nobody asked for or ever used.

They say they killed the nexus line of phones well they stopped making new ones but the old ones still work and would have worked during normal usage time of a typical user.

I still have my nexus 7 tablet from 2013 and it works. So what if they didn't make a new one. I would have liked them to yes but their choice. I still use my nexus 7 today.

Nothing in that list I'll ever miss.

I quoted 1.5mm 3 core as I have it on site for the room stats, but looking at my electrical supplier its £35 for 100m of 1mm so peanuts really.

I know I can get away without the wall switch as the 3000 series has the audio link so smart phone to check status via the app.

I would need in my system

Heat/carbon monoxide - Kitchen
Heat/carbon monoxide - Garage
Multi sensor - Hall
Multi sensor - landing x2 (Got a change in ceiling heights between the original house and extension)
?? possible an additional alarm in the living room where we'll have a log burner

I work away and night shifts so it would be just as a heads up if it goes off and the wife and kids are at home, also the Nests ability to link in with Hue bulbs and Honeywell Evo Home(initial plan now running with Heatmiser system)

During activation, the head that triggered with have a rapidly flashing red led.

But yeah audio link gives you that info and more.
