I want to make a wired connection to my pc which is in another room.
I have purchaced 2 cat 6 walplates, one for each room.
Can i just run a cable through the walls and loft from1 plate to the other?
Also what cable do i need?
im a little confused as there seems to be a few, cat6 utp/ftp solid, stranded etc.

Any help would be most appreciated.

You want solid unscreened cable for homes. So Solid UTP. You need the solid for proper termination in the faceplates.

Do you have a IDC Punchdown tool for the faceplates? Makes it a helluva lot easier. Can be had for a few quid from auction sites.

cat 5e would suffice. the popular auction site is the best for your punch down tool
