Going to be on the search for a new mouse soon. My MX510 (had since 2004/5) is still working, picked up randomly from Currys all those years ago, little did I know I was picking up one of the best mice ever made :D However all the paint job and grip is pretty much completely worn away. I like the idea of having no cords on my desk, but is there a performance loss in wired vs wireless mice? also like my side buttons :D

I mostly play a mixture of FPS, RPG, MMO and RTS in that order. Don't really have a budget, but I want to try get the best value for money. I still need to get a keyboard which is gonna cost even more money too :(

Been looking at either the following:
Steelseries Sensei RAW (heard some bad things about this mouse however)
Zowie EC2 eVo 2300 DPI Pro-Gaming Mouse (slightly over budget)
Logitech G700 Wireless Gaming Mouse (this is marked up in price rather than down  )
Roccat Kone XTD 8200 DPI Gaming Mouse

Been so long since I've had the need or compulsion to buy a mouse :D

I think when people think of wireless mice, they imagine if a microwave or phone goes off whilst they are playing something bad will happen.

I'm not a fan myself of wireless mice, especially for FPS games as its like anything wireless, you can in some cases have interference, or when something is battery powered, can cause discrepancies in the connection and responsiveness.

If FPS is at the top of your list I'd stick to Wired, although there is the exception.

The Razer Mamba, has the ability to switch between wired and wireless, its not the lightest mouse around, and its quite costly although I feel its the best wireless mouse in the market, it works on the best selling wired mouse "Deathadder" design, and has side buttons, so really ideal if you play a wide array of games. the G700 I've not used so I'd not be able to say anything on that.

If your looking for a wired replica even though the EC2 is in your budget its a lot smaller, I'd consider looking at both the EC1 and EC2 to see which you'd feel would be more comfortable like the MX518.

SteelSeries Mice I feel are average and quite a few people talk about the problems which they have, so I cant exactly speak highly of them.

The Razer Mamba is indeed one sexy looking mouse, like most things which are sexy in this world, they are also expensive **** me :O lol I might see how much I can sell on eBay over the coming weeks, I've already spent nearly 1500 on a new rig, desk and monitor, might has well go all out and get a quality mouse too lol

if your wanting wireless, sadly as its gaming grade wireless technology, its costly because it works, but ye, if your FPS gamer like myself, getting all that rig etc and having a dire mouse, can really put a damper on the whole thing.

I really don't see any disadvantages with using a wireless mouse. I'm using an old microsoft wireless laser mouse 5000 and it's about as responsive as they get. I must have had it a good 5 years+ and i have never experienced any interference. The batteries last for months.

But then again, what are the advantages, really? Sure there's no cord on the desk, but is that really a big problem? It's not like you take the mouse of the desk and wander around the house with it.

I will never understand why anyone would buy a wireless over a wired mouse/keyboard. You always have the trouble of buying new batteries and the mouse/keyboard randomly stopping working because of the batteries. Meh.

Well.... I got me a Razer Mamba about 3/4 years ago because the cable of my wired mouse kept snagging and catching on things and always seemed to be getting in the way. Its a top quality product because I've dropped it numerous times and its still working fine, and it has been in almost daily use since purchase.

Battery life is good and the charging platform has a small foot print which allows you to set the mouse on it for charging when not in use... indeed as the charge indicator is low I have set it on the charger as I'm typing...

Finally, if the charge runs out, simply detach the cable from the cradle, plug it in the mouse and away you go, no need to mess about with batteries!!!

I couldn't give it a higher recommendation!

I have the 2012 Razer Mamba and I love it. It gives me just enough macro keys to play games such as Smite and the feel is lovely, not to mention that the stand looks great!! I have only had some interference once, but that was quickly resolved by plugging in the cable which is normally in the dock! I highly recommend it!

I use a G700 and it's excellent.
The ability to switch between wired and wireless is fantastic. It's very precise in both modes although I tend to use it in wired mode more than wireless.

allways wired for gaming imo, no point getting killed from no mouse, had that before and had no batts and had to wait ages for recharge, for the casula gamer aye, but 10 hr stints demands wired imo, i learned that lession, and also the lag, response time is faster through copper

Wireless is great nowadays.

I have a G700, and response times, sensitivity, all of that, is brilliant.

The only thing to look out for is battery life - get some decent rechargeables and have another set handy. The G700 has a handy light indicator to let you know when it's dying.

I echo this post.

Whilst the mouse is fantastic, the battery life of the supplied rechargeable is laughable, off the top of my head I think it is 600mAh...

Good old wired mouse with mouse bungee here, never have to worry about battery life or anything to do with wireless issues, wired mouse with bungee is just great for gaming.
