I seem to be having issue with the wired part of my netgear router - now I'll give a quick summary of what I've tried and see if Im right (or I'm missing something)

My current set up is a Netgear DGN2000 wired to a HP-1800G switch which is wired to my desktop and my htpc; it also connects wirelessly to 2 iPhones and MacBook (which I'm writing this on now).

Now both my desktop and htpc have trouble connecting to the internet/router and pinging from either shows up at best 50% packet drop and even then it struggles to connect to the web interface of the router and is REALLY slow. However, transferring files between the two is fine (goes about 80MB/s)

Wirelessly - MacBook and iPhones are no issue and ping the router OK and anywhere on the net OK; however they will not ping the htpc (says no route) and there is bad packet loss on ping the desktop.

Now I've rebooted the router with no effect, connected it directly to the htpc with no effect so I have come to the conclusion that the wired part of the router is knackered.

Am I right, or is there something else missing?

Have you tried resetting the Router/Switch & checking for updated firmware for either of them?

Replace the cable between the router and the switch.

Issues you are seeing are occuring between the router and switch, but not across the switch, or across the router.

When you plugged into the HTPC, did you use the same cable that was plugged into the switch previously??

EDIT NVM

Sorry missed the part about you directly connecting to the HTPC. Looks like the router's inbuilt switch is problematic or the cable.
