Wireless 360 controller won't connect to PC (with the adapter)

sorry to revive the somewhat old thread but has anyone got this working on windows 8?.
Yes I use a wireless xbox360 gamepad on both my gaming PC & HTPC with no problems running windows 8 pro 64bit...

They both always connect straight away within a few seconds..:)

The problem might not be the gear. It might be the environment.

Bluetooth/wireless devices work in the 2.4GHz radio band. Same as wireless routers...and digital cordless telephones...and baby monitors....and wireless CCTV devices....mobile phones.... and WAPs.... and AV Senders.... and the list goes on and on. All these devices are fighting for a limited number of channels.

Where I live I can pick up the presence of 9 wireless routers alone. These are just the ones broadcasting SSIDs for identification. Add to that the invisible ones because they don't broadcast SSIDs. Add to that cordless phones. We have tow sets in our house because there's a business line too. Next door have a set too. The wireless spectrum is fast running out of space.

I just bought a wireless keyboard for a media centre PC. It won't connect at anything more than 5ft. It's only usable properly at 3ft from the PC. There's just too much other background noise.
