Wireless Access Point question?

Am I correct in thinking that if i get a Wireless Access Point I can receive a wirless signal from my router and connect my pc to it via an ethernet cable?

I have a wirless router but no wireless internet card in my pc. I would also rather not use up slots on my motherboard if I can help it.

Yep, you got it. You'd most likely have to set it to 'client' mode but afaik most will support this.
