Hi.

I have ordered a Netgear DG834G Wireless modem, router etc.

I use Wanadoo Broadband @1.1mbs

Now i am completely new to routers, wireless netowrks etc.

The main phone line from BT comes into my 3rd bedroom, which is the office, where the computer is. Now i gather that i throw away my USB Speedtouch modem as the new wireless router will do all that and more. Hopefully it wil be easy to set up.

I have also ordered a squeezebox 3 for the lounge downstairs, (if you dont know, its a wireless music streaming device) for mp3's etc, connect to your hi-fi and you have all your music at your finger tips from your computer.

now the squeezebox will connect wirelessly with my router i realise that.

BUT, i have a 3 year old computer in another room gathering dust which I may want to also use one day. If i wanted that to connect to the router and the internet would all I have to buy is one of those PCI cards with an aerial coming out of the back ? (wireless PCI card i quess ?) and are they easy to set up.

Do i have to buy a certain kind ? and when i have a wireless card in the other computer, can i kind of "look in it" from my other PC, and use files etc ? copy, open things up ? not sure how it all kind of works

I would also at times like that older PC to be able to share my internet connection perhaps.

thank you

You could buy a USB wireless reciever for the older PC if it has USB. I use these with my wireless network with good success. I have 2 PC's sharing broadband over a dlink wireless router. Also i can share files Etc

Easy to set up and use also, especially in XP.

yep you can use a wireless pci card or you could run a wire if you have onboard LAN on the 3year old PC which you should have. PCI card should be easy enough to set up. you can browse all of the computers connected to the network from any computer aslong as you set this up.

it would have to be ver USB 1 though as the older PC does not work with USB 2, and no, the older PC does not have a lan socket, or RJ45 (is that the same thing)
