It should be a Broadcom 4318 chipset, my dad's laptop is the same one. Not tried ubuntu, but I got it working in Fedora 8 (even from the LiveCD!) with a bit of tweaking.
I think they're the same thing, though it may be any 43xx chipset instead. Basic procedure for me was to get the firmware out of the Windows driver files, put that on the filesystem and reload the driver module.
