Dear all,

I'm extremley confused by all this Wireless Business.

What I want to do is setup a simple, cheap, wireless internet.

All I would like to be able to do is allow my Laptop to connect to my Main Computers Wired 2mb Broadband.

Do I need a Router or an Access Point? Whats the difference?

I also want to use my PSP Online and have seen that the Datel Wifi Max can also be used to allow laptops to connect to it.

Help

Thanks

Technically you only need an access point (I think) but I'm using the same setup as you, psp online and free roaming with the laptop tied into my 10Mb, I got the Linksys WRT54G wireless router, works a charm. Only 45 bucks out the ocuk shop.

If you have an exsiting internet connection (adsl/cable) and no router then what you want to get is adsl or cable wireless router. This means that the internet connection can be shared either by wire or wirelessly. You can plug your main computer into the router using a network cable and your laptop can connect wirelessly if it has built in wireless, other wise you will need to get a wireless pcmia card for it. Your PSP should be able to connect to the network as well.
An access point does not have a built in modem, if you have an existing router then you'll want an access point.
