i've not really used it that much, but i thought wireless connections were made at the logon screen?

have you forwarded your port 3389 on the router?

Normally the sofware provided with the wireless card has this option.

However I have the same problem with a laptop here that just uses windows to manage it's wireless connection and wont log in to a domain when it first starts up.

yeah....it connects once i log in i can see that when im at home...

but i did get it to connect upon pc bootup, so once i remote from work after a bounce, i can get on..

yeah 3389 forwarded ok hence i can get onto it from work once i log in to home pc itself in a morning at home that is....

i want to be able to reboot it while using rdc tho..

its possible as i had this lastyear but cant remember how!
grrrrrrrrr

i do know (i think) that windows is not possible to do this....
and i do know my software didnt give me this option as im using same stuff as lastyear.

its something in services/registry etc etc somewhere think.

im on the case now as i need it for my work laptop also which i rebuilt and its doin same

as i use vpn client with this and is needed to connect before login so i can then login via vpn client onto domain...

im nearly there think..

i do know i disables windows wireless service zero config...
as this gives you ping spikes every 120 secs or so while its searchin,

i deffo used the cards software for each PC. with zero config disabled in services...

If your home rig is running XP Pro rather than Home you can try a Group Policy setting which sounds like it might do the job.

Go to Start > Run > gpedit.msc and press enter.
When the policy editor has loaded go to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Logon.
Find the option "Always wait for the network at computer startup and login" and set to "enable".
Then exit.

Restart your XP machine and your PC should now process any login scripts and wait for the wireless connection to be established before giving you a login screen.

The Intel software for their wireless cards lets you connect to a wireless network before logging in. It's something you have to choose at install though.

one workaround would be to set the pc to autologin

-you could have a lock via psshutdown.exe (google it) as soon as it logs in if you want it locked straight away

My Windows XP installation always connected before login - otherwise domain login wouldn't've worked. I did nothing special.

Not strictly true. Once yoy've logged in once with a live connection to an account you can then log in using 'cached credentials' even when the pc cannot see the domain controller.

But roaming profile download would fail, and it didn't fail. I could ping the machine and access shares, so it definitely connected before login.

Some network card drivers do this by default, I recently had to do it on a work laptop rebuild and rather than installing the drivers that came with the card had to download the drivers off the intel site to get the "pre-login check" option.

Very annoying.
