Wireless connection tracking software

Hi,

Nothing sinister here, just want some software i can put on my PC that is wired into my wireless router so when someone connects to it, it tells me. I seem to be getting some unwanted pc's on my network and id liek to know when they are on without having to check my http page every 2 mins.

Anyone got anything in mind to help me out?

This doesn't answer your question exactly. But what router have you got? Can you not set it to not broadcast the SSID? To stop others seeing your network and accessing the router? Also can you restrict access to the router to certain, specified MAC addresses?

If you can do either, or both, then make your router not broadcast the SSID and add the MAC addresses of your PCs to the list. This should help you reduce the chances of people accessing your wireless network. :)

I do this. It makes your wireless network much more secure.
 
Good idea - think i can do that, its a BUFFALO one, about 3 years old, but still going.

As ns400r said, decent encryption (WPA, WPA2; decent passphrase length of mixed characters) is much more worthwhile than switching off SSID broadcast and MAC encryption (both of which are trivial to work around; Vista shows a non-broadcast SSID anyway).

Some routers will have monitoring options (either proprietary or based in SNMP) that would let you keep a list of connected hosts.
 
Turned off the broadcast and put WEP key on it now. Should stop the little sods getting on. didnt want to do anything too much as my mum and dad use it and they struggle enough as it is, but seems once the key has gone in it doesnt mean to be put in again, so thats ok.

There was a program from a while ago called Wireless Watch .It is supposed to monitor your network and notify you of any leeches .You can even send them a message on a pop up screen .
