Wireless Connection Win 2000 HELP

Long story trying to sort this wireless connection out with the above software. However I cannot find anything ie "view wireless networks" etc Bottom line is that sister in law has been given an IBM Think pad with win 2000 on it I am trying to get it to hook up with the aid of a wireless card to her router (sky yes I know) she has already spent hours on to there pants support. and still no further along the line being able to connect.

So here I am with a fully working network in my house with her laptop sitting in front of me but I cannot find how to view the networks avail ie my own wireless one. you go in to the obvious wireless connections and erm like nothing if you want to make a new one (you cannot see any wireless ones) it starts asking about ips and passwords. what's all that about ?

So here I am hoping that some knowledgeable person will be able to help put me on the right path so to speak

Windows 2000 is a pain to get Wireless working, make sure you have all the updates and the manufacturer supports windows 2000 in their utility (if they have one, some just rely on windows to manage the connection) if it doesn't, you could be stuck!!

I had 2000 on a laptop and wireless was a pain, so much so I upgraded to XP, this is a few years back now. Windows doesnt really support wireless until SP2, in my opinion!

Dang - I'm guessing it's the same for Win 98? I'm trying to connect a very very old machine with Win 98Se installed on it. I'm not having much luck whatsoever. The network router is detected - but I can't find the wireless zero configuration on it. It's very strange..

You will need to use the software that came with the wireless card for both Win2k and 98se as they have no true native wireless support!

depending on what card it is depends on the software. what you will need to do is run a site survey to find the network then add the wep key (im sure it has to be wep for win2k and 98se as wpa was not supported by the OS), and job should be done!
