Any ideas what could be causing this?

No issues in the past with this, just seems to have started happening. As soon as the "family" laptop is turned on, my ps3 drops connection. Can't hard wire it into the router as all 4 ports are already taken, something else I need to sort really.

What router do you have? Could be because it needs to share wireless bandwidth between the two and it's not doing a very good job at sharing.

You could buy a switch to give you more ethernet ports. This seems like the best option to do instead of buying a more expensive router.

Could be an ip address conflict. Try setting the laptop up as a fixed ip and check if still happens. Routers are normally good at giving out addresses but maybe it's slipped up this time.
