Bt home hub v 1.0

2 laptops connected wirelessley

1 laptop connects fine

1 laptop shows full signal but when i click connect it brings up wep key entry with key saved in box, click ok, progess bar for a while then stops and is not connected, says somthing like no longer available.

(Performed within a couple of feet of the routeer with other laptop next to it and working fine on wireless)

Installed netstumbler to look for others channels shortly before the problem and im wondering if this is linked in somehow?

check all drivers are correct and up to date first, using ethernet if needed.
then check bt homehub to see if wireless channel is automatic, in which case I'd change it to something like 6 and see if that solves it...
Loads more to try but that should start you off...

Drivers are up to date, ethernet used to check.

Home hub was changed to channel 13, as channels 1,6,7 and 11 were heavily in use in the area. Also changed channel to 2 now, still same prob.

The only changes made to bring on this problem are, installed net stumbler, changed channels. Its really bizare.

are you sure

1) the laptop is not wireless B only (had one last week doing the same)
2) you are 100% sure you are typing the key correctly
3) i dont have an xp machine here atm so cannot get the right option however, if you are on XP, look at the properties of the wireless network you jsut connected to there is one tab with info about IEEE something smart card authentication - uncheck this box to disable the option (this usually causes it to try and authenticate for ever but it might be the issue)
4) make sure someone has not stuck a static IP on the card

thats all I can think of

1 last thing i jsut thought of, if you are using windows to manage the wireless, install the utility that comes with the wireless card, if you are already using that switch to the windows one.

-I'll have to check if it wireless B only (how do you do this btw).
-100% the key is correct, typed it a million times to ensure.
-I'll check the info for smart card auth
-Where would I check for a static IP on the card?

Cheers for your help fella

Bit of a follow up:

- Its XP on a dell latitude d600 laptop with intel wireless 2200bg
- Cant find anything saying IEEE in the wireless network properties or the configuration of the card
- IP address is set to optain automatically.

Any ideas folks. As said before, my other dell laptop is sitting next to it with full signal and working fine so its an odd one and must just be some simple setting on the one laptop or maybe the router!?

PRoblem solved folks. Updated the bt home hub firmware to the latest version as I found out it was a very common fault with the intel wireless and the firmware I had.
