I need an Idiot guide to setting up Wirless internet and file / printer sharing on a Laptop. Main PC has ADSL Internet access with a router (No Manual). Laptop has Built In wireless hardware. Help! Complete noob.
 
First of all, you need some patience. We're not sitting here just to answer your questions.

What exactly do you need to know?
File/printer sharing is no different on wireless as with a cable, and "internet sharing" should be handled by the router.
 
Firstly, i was in an urgent situation and thought with the amount of people on here i would get an answer of some kind.

Secondly, it is not easy or straight forward if you have not done it before. Where was the help in your reply?

You asked me 'What do you need to know?" That was asked in my first thread:

So as you can see, i need a guide that is idiot proof or very easy to follow. I am on Dial up here so i cannot afford to go trying different links that are in the sticky at the top of this forum as it takes ages for the pages to open.

So, any help would be great. Thanks

Indeed, if you're not prepared to help us help you, then you'll simply be ignored. Most of us have better things to do than sit around waiting for some impatient member to turn up demanding instant service.

So you want a step by step guide to setting up a router, whose make and model number you didn't even post? :confused:

If you just hook it up the network parts of it should work fine, but the ADSL side will need some configuration. As I've said, you'd need to give a make and model to go much further than that...

As said, if you don't help us to help you, you aren't going to get far.

Ok, thanks. Just that is there anywhere i can get a step by step guide (Idiot proof) on setting up a wireless network and Wireless Internet sharing with a laptop? Just a good basic guide. Not for one specific model of router just a general guide. Cheers
 
So, like, give us a make and model number of your router, like was suggested?

General guide:
  • Switch machines on
  • Switch router on
    • Wired network should just work
    • Wireless machines should see the wireless network and connect
  • Sharing should work automatically

Once again, there's no difference between the wired and wireless segments (barring encryption et al for wireless), and there's no internet sharing required (since the router will handle that).
