Wireless internet in shed.

Hi, I am trying to help a friend who has just built a large shed. We have found the wireless reception of the standard Sky broadband router to be poor, and are only getting 1 bar of signal and frequent disconnections.

Can anyone recommend a good powerful router? Also I have seen a little about extenders but with mixed reviews.

There is also the posibility of a neighbor 2 doors down wanting to share the connection. I know in the past I have piggy backed a connection when I have just moved house for example, so again, looking for the best possible router.

Sky used to use rebranded netgear routers,can you unscrew the antenna?if so replace with an antenna of higher gain,this will increase your signal strength and range

if its sky then you do need to spend time with the existing router to get the account details if you want to change it, probbaly easeier to add on a high power access point OR use 2 homeplugs to privide access in the shed (works if the shed is on the same circuits as the house)

ebay has a lot of ex BT, 2wire routers most of which have high power settings available

buffalo used to make some higher powered routers or access points as well

runs some external grade cat 5 cable from router to shed and have a hard wired connection.

And DON'T even consider sharing a connection with a neighbour!!! Worst idea in the world!!!

Simple things like your neighbour decides to download VERY dodgy content on your connection could be lots of trouble for you, neighbour decides to change your connection password/router password etc.
