Wireless Link Speed problem

Hello

Hoping someone can help with an issue I have come up against..

Recently bought TP-Link 450Mbps Wireless N Dual Band PCI Express Adapter (TL-WDN4800) from OCUK.

Directly connecting to the Superhub 2AC I get a link speed of 450mbps and speed tests of 65 - 80Mb on Virgin 100Mb which is pretty good.

However to kill off a few deadspots in the house and hopefully improve the connection speed further I decided to buy TP-Link RE200 AV750 WiFi Range Extender again from OCUK.

As soon as I connect to the range extender my link speed drops to 150mbps and speed tests range from 10 - 35Mb.

I checked all the configuration settings and drivers of both the range extender and the wireless adapter which are up to date from the TP Link website. I then decided it might be to do with the security used and I have tried WPA, WEP, WPA-PSK (AES/TKIK) and no security at all but none of these settings improve the link speed.

Any suggestions very welcome!

Thanks

Bottom of page 29 on the manual suggests it only works in half duplex mode when set as a range extender, could this cause the 150mbps connection speed?

Possibly (and annoying if it does) but would it reduce down to say 225mbps which is actually half? Hoping that isn't the answer as it would mean it was a useless piece of equipment and it would be unnecessary to extend 5ghz wireless with such a limited link speed?

I believe most if not all range extenders work at half duplex. Range extenders IMO are damn awful devices, sitting at the outer most reaches
Of the wireless range so receiving awful speeds anyway, halving it onwards and then people wonder why they get low speeds.

If you can, do it right, run a cable to the additional WAP.

Agree. I ran a CAT6 externally to the other end of the house and now the wifi via 2 routers is top (my house layout means its hard work for the wifi if using just the 1 router).

Just suck it up and get the cable installed! :D
No more problems then.
