Hi, thanks for checking this out.

Need some advice on my network, has to be completely wireless as the positioning of the modem and router cant change.

Laptops used upstairs and downstairs

-------------------------------------------------------------
Upstairs:

Server - Wireless (USB wireless 54g)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Downstairs:

Modem - Wired (20Mbit)
Router - Wireless 54Mbs (Linksys WRT54GL)
-------------------------------------------------------------

only problem here is my router isnt fast enough to allow the streaming of dvd's or HD content from the server to the laptops in the house.

so when streaming a dvd it stutteres due to bandwidth limitations of sending the data to the router and back to the laptop.

so: recommendations please, would upgrading to 108Mbs in the server and router help things? :)

Thanks

So your net connection comes in downstairs to a router that has Wifi, that gives wireless internet access to 2 laptops and a 'server'? And then the server also provides, basically, file sharing for the other two laptops?

Tbh, i'd say wait a bit for prices to drop and go for the 300mbps kit. On everything (Router, server, laptops). You obviously wont see that 300mbps speed, probably nearer to 80-100, but still, you'd probably be able to stream HD stuff fine with it.
Upgrading just one part of the wifi to faster speeds wont make the blindest bit of difference if the others are at slower speeds, as it'll only work to the lowest common denominator.
