Wireless network cards??

hey i am looking to get a wireless card for my pc becuase the cable keeps breaking.
im going to be using it for gaming mostly i have lookd around but i cant really tell the £15 ones from the £60 1s other than the price

Can't you get a better cable? Or try Homeplugs?

+1 for homeplugs. i use a wireless network card for browsing etc but when i'm gaming i switch to homeplugs. I find that they don't get as hot as some people think as well.
today, i left my pc on for over 24 hours downloading almost 60gb of steam games and they were hardly warm, and they were fairly cheap ones at £45 for the two.

I just find that i can't get on with wireless network cards at all.

I use a home plug for my server. But my desktops are wireless. Can't fault the D-Link DWA-547 in my Windows box. Got it from OCuK a while back. I don't think they stock it anymore though. Uses the Atheros chipset so well supported in Windows and Linux.

i looked in to it and i don’t have any spare plug sockets i only have 2 in my room so i cant get home plugs and iv had some many cables now and they all last for about a month. Thanks for ur suggestions

im running with windows 64bit will that be a prob cus some of them said 32bit but i have a 32bit pci slot on my mb i dont knw if it works with 64bit windows

It doesn't matter what sort of PCI slot it is, it has nothing to do with the OS type

. You will have no problems with it. Just make sure you install the 64bit drivers and everything should work well

I've not had a problem with my Edimax EW-7728IN , its just about as far as from the router as can be in the standard semi detached, only thing is drivers were a bitch to find, had to go to ralink for them. Other than that i'm happy with how it performs.

im only 17 so i still live at home and my parents and they wont let me have the thick 1s. so i got to have the clear 1s and they break so easy

Do you get faster speeds over ethernet cables? I'm at university so use a USB adapter as my PCI adapter broke.

Might re-invest in one. What exactly is a homeplug btw?

It depends on the wireless you're using. 100mbps ethernet is faster than G but N is beats both. Then there is 1gbps which is even faster, but most routers only come with 100mbps ports. Ethernet is also a lot more reliable.

Homeplugs uses the electrical wirings in the house to create a network, so all you need is to attach the homeplug to the mains and connect one to the PC and the other to the router. I find them as reliable as ethernet.
