I will do the introduction bit in a minute right now this is of top priority for me. I have posted this on another forum while I was waiting for authorisation here so I will do a copy and paste job.

--Original post--

I am having an issue with my new PC. It will not connent to the wireless network in the house when the PC is in my bedroom.

To clarify this is not an issue with any other computer in the house. I am writing this on my old laptop in my bedroom now with my PS3 also being able to connect to the network. The new PC is beside the PS3 and will not connect. I have been through two new router to try and boost the range and nothing has worked.

Breakdown:
Current modem router is working and laptop/PS3 are connected. The new PC will find it on search but wont get internet access when connected.

New router (n wireless) is picked up on search and connects still no internet connection. it runs between 75% and 90% connection strength.

The only break in the chain I can see the the new PC's wireless card. (Asus n15) it will connect and use wireless internet but only at close range. It will even pick up and use the old router (only wireless b/g) but once again only at close range.

Initially I thought it might be a signal strength issue so i bought a new Wireless modem/router (Netgear). It would not even connect to the dsl and I could never work out why so I returned it. Bought a wireless N router and plugged it into the existing modem/router. It runs great but the PC is still unable to connect to the internet. it picks it up and connects but will not then connect to the internet.

I think I need a new wireless card for the new PC. Shame because it's only 2 weeks old.

I have attached three pictures:
The new Pc with the new router. Good connection no Internet.

Old laptop old router okay connection and full internet access.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

--Update--

Within 30 minutes of posting that ti suddenly started to work and indeed work better than I think possible for the router to be able to do. Either way it lasted 9 hours and was great. 2 weeks of the pc no connection and suddenly 9 hours of the best connection in the house.

Now it has pulled it old tricks back in to line and is not connecting again. It is giving the same Unidentified Network error.

I could be wrong but judging by it actually connecting with no changes anywhere in the setup it is not a range issue but I have no idea what could be causing it. I am at a tear the hair out stage of annoyance.

Could it be the PICe wireless card? Any help anybody could give would be great.

It sounds a bit like issues I've had in the past where there were multiple networks working on the same channel. I'd try setting both the router and the wireless adapter to the same channel, and work through them all to see if it makes a difference.

:edit: Please try not to moan about people viewing the thread and not posting. This is one of the most helpful communities around if you'd just give it a chance.

Download inssider onto your laptop and walk round the house checking the wireless networks, their signal strengths and what channel they're on. Then you can make an informed decision about changing the channel on the Router to an unused or little used one that has other weaker signals on it.

Okay sorry about that I am just having a really bad time of this. Been through 2 week of **** from people over the pc being in the wrong rooms and wi-fi being down while I tried other router to improve everybodies connection.

Thank you very much for the replies. I am not exactly sure about changing the channel on the wi-fi card. although changing it on the router is not a problem. The wireless card can detect the network in my house and in the neighbours houses. The laptop works in the intended location as does the PS3 but the PC with it's better card and range (potentially) is having problems.

The only thing I have not tried is moving the card to another PICe slot, although I do not see changing anything.

I will give inssider a go but it already works in every location inside the house and partially in the back garde. as does my brothers laptop (apparently he can eve get connection in the next door neighbours house).

Shows up pretty much what I though, less signal strength but still working and perfectly usable.

Complete with connection fault. When it connects it has better signal strength then I suspect it should (85-100%). All the trappings of a network connection but without the all important Internet connection.

Sorry about being an infuriated idiot and the double post.

Sorry to drag this back up but I have never used inSSIDer before so could someone tell me if what I am looking at is actually working correctly. It does not look wrong, in fact it looks spot on for where I am in the house but am I missing some vital error the is stopping all the works?

Either way I will be buying a set of Ethernet plugs. I am just the kind of person who has to know why. I am not especially annoyed that it's not working but I am seriously annoyed that I don't know why. Why is it not working? I absolutely detest not know the answer to something that is directly effecting me. You know how it is, you spend considerable amounts of money to get the system you want and then one piece brings it all to a grinding halt.
