When connected via network cable at the router the internet speed it 6.5 -7 Mb/s however when connecting via wireless I am down to 512k- 1Mb.

Is this normal?

If not how do I increase this?

It isn't normal, but it'll depend on the conditions you're trying to use the wireless through - how far away are you from the router, what's in between them, the speed of the wireless card/router you're using.

Netgear stuff... all 54Mbps stuff.

DG834G router and (at the moment) WG511v2 card on my laptop.

Given the rated speed of all the equipment I'm surprised it's proving to be the bottleneck.

Must be a setting I haven't changed I thinking?

errr I'm only connected using G and I get over 10 mbps aswell so that isn't really his problem.
It is for me. I'm connected in a small house using netgear G hardware. Over the WLAN I get awful speeds, over than the LAN they're fine.

OK dissable all encryption and try using different chan's and see what that does for you. Also worth trying the latest firmware (assuming that you haven't already).

Using latest firmware and did switch about channels just to maintain a connection.

I'll give it another try to see if the speeds increase.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks.
